Ski Jumping, Aerial Ramps, and Bobsleds

The Fourth Grade students at Park visited the Alf Engen Ski Museum and Olympic Park just outside Park City on April 22, 2011.  We learned more about the importance of snow to the economy of Utah and the importance of the snow pack to our water supply for the residents of Utah.  We learned that after the silver mines closed in Park City the snow became white gold, by bringing in tourists that wanted to ski.  The students got to see where athletes practice aerial ski jumps in the summer by going off ramps into a swimming pool.  We went to the top of the bobsled run and had a look around and many students sat in a bobsled.  We looked out over the big ski jump and marveled at how far the skiier jumps down the mountain.  We learned a lot and had a great experience.
