Counselor's Corner

Happy New Year Park Parents and Students!! Welcome back!

For a large span of my life, I would religiously make New Year's Resolutions in the 5 main areas of my life: intellectual, physical, spiritual, emotional and social. Some years I did really well and other years it became a "to do" list for the first week of January. And then I heard about reframing "Resolutions" to "Intentions" instead. That really resonated with me. Setting an intention feels more manageable. It also feels more like I am focused on growth and the constant process of becoming a better version of myself; not just a check-off list.

During the month of January, Mrs. J will teach the final tool of the R.U.L.E.R technique; REGULATE. As a reminder RULER is the acronym for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing and Regulating. Strategies we are learning to enhance our emotional intelligence skill-set and toolbox. As we learn and practice healthy self-regulation skills, we learn to complete the stress response cycle, no longer trapping negative stress energy in our bodies. And subsequently, alleviating the physical and mental toll that negative stress energy takes on us.

For better self-regulation, an intention I am setting this year is to give each member of my family a 20 second hug. Every day! I'm curious if this will make an impact on the emotional regulation of my children as well?!? I invite you to join me with this Intention and let's see what happens together?!?
