Hispanic Heritage Month Dramatization

Submitted by sheree.storrer on

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month 4th grade students explored a Zapotec legend from Oaxaca, Mexico: “The Woman Who Outshone the Sun.”  Gathered from the oral traditions of the Zapotec people of Southern Mexico, the story tells about a mysterious and magical woman, Lucia Zembrano, who visits a mountain village accompanied by her pet iguana. Students role-played Lucia, the villagers, the river, fish and otters.  Park’s drama integration coach, Mrs. Bean, directed the students in their classroom re-enactments.

Students in 4th grade have been learning about energy transfer. They are putting their knowledge to the test and making Rube Goldberg machines that would knock a marker off of their desk using only items in their desk!

Family Reading Night

Family reading night was a HUGE success last night! We had the best time and are so grateful for all of our Park families who came and participated in the festivities. We had a lot of different activities that revolved around reading or finding new books, listening to stories, winning a book and even trivia and pizza. We would like to thank our committee who planned this event and all of their hard work to make this night a success.

The month of September was spent working on Habit 1 in Leadership Academy. We also read “My Many Colored Days” by Dr. Seuss. All of the students had a chance to make Sun catchers based on the characters in the book.

PSL Leadership Conference

On Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, the Park Student Leaders were able to attend the Leadership Conference at BYU. They were able to meet and trade stickers with several other school representatives. As part of the conference, they listened to some inspirational leaders such as Brad Barton, Ryan Radebaugh, John Bytheway, and Meg Johnson. They learned different ways that they can lead from their heart. They came away from the conference with happy hearts and many ideas on how they can assist Park Elementary and the students.
