Hello all Nebo School District Students and Family Members,

The Nebo School District is celebrating National School Breakfast week March 3-March 7. The 2014 theme for this annual event is "Take Time for School Breakfast". On Monday, Mayor Steve Leifson will  join the students at Rees Elementary for breakfast and read the official proclamation to open the week's events. Throughout the week we have numerous activities including prize giveaways in the cafeterias and both a school and district-wide art contest.

The Leader in Me is all about building leaders in our school.  Students in Mrs. Stauffer's class learned they cause positive effects when using the 7 Habits.  Students have learned to apply the 7 Habits in school, during recess, at home and in the community.   

WAR, what is it good for?  Absolutely EVERYTHING at Park Elementary!

We will continue our Penny Wars fundraiser till this Friday, February 28th. This is a great way to contribute to Park School and to help fund the fabulous activities and programs provided at our school. 

This is how Penny Wars works:  Students bring pennies to contribute to their class running total.  The class that collects the most pennies wins and will be given a reward from Mr. Kay.

"To Live; To Learn; To Lead"  

Park Students met together for the 2nd Victory Assembly this year on February 7th.  Victory Assemblies are a way to recognize students as leaders in the areas of math, reading, and leadership in the classroom.  Students are selected by their teachers and recognized during a Victory Assembly on the first Friday of each month.

 Book Fair is coming soon and we need volunteers! It's almost time for the Park Elementary School's Spring Book Fair  - Students will preview the book fair with their teachers on Monday March 3 and we will be open for Shopping Monday March 3rd Thru Friday March 7th.  Plan to come spend some time at our Book Fair Fiesta where there will be something for everyone.

Park Elementary would like to congratulate the finalists that participated in the annual Spelling Bee.  It was an exciting event with fabulous sportsmanship displayed by students and viewers.

Natalie Combs, from Mrs. Coates 5th grade class, claimed the title of the 2014 Spelling Bee and will move on to the upcoming Utah Valley Spelling Bee.  Nathan Oviatt, from Mr. James 6th grade class was the runner-up.

Other Participants included: Bryant Shell 4th, Lily Stutz 4th, Korbin McEwan 5th, Kensie Huff 5th, Sarin Burr 6th.

While the State Legislature is in session, leaders from Park Elementary had the opportunity to visit the state capital and showcase The Leader in Me to some of our state representatives.

Monday, February 3, 2014 started out very early for six Park Panthers: Tyrel Bird, Logan Castor, Auston Castor, Katie Stauffer, Baylee Carter, and Hampton White.  These student leaders shared their Leadership Binder with legislators and discussed personal goals, why they made that goal, and made new goals after celebrating with a victory. 

It was a battle of the books as Mrs. Sorensen's class collided in  a Reading Superbowl that was held for two weeks leading up to the real Superbowl last weekend. The class was divided into two teams, the Broncos and the Seahawks.  Students read each night and turned in their minutes on a football the following day.  Whichever team had the most minutes read the night before, scored a touchdown for their team. It was a nailbiting event as the score went back and forth and ended up being a close game.  In the end the Broncos ended up winning by 1 touchdown.

2nd grade students enjoyed reading with their "Book Buddy" Friday morning.  Students were able to sit and read or listen to a variety of books and enjoy a delicious donut afterwards.  Thanks to all of our teachers, students and visitors for making this event so special!
