Hispanic Heritage Month Dramatization

Submitted by sheree.storrer on

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month 4th grade students explored a Zapotec legend from Oaxaca, Mexico: “The Woman Who Outshone the Sun.”  Gathered from the oral traditions of the Zapotec people of Southern Mexico, the story tells about a mysterious and magical woman, Lucia Zembrano, who visits a mountain village accompanied by her pet iguana. Students role-played Lucia, the villagers, the river, fish and otters.  Park’s drama integration coach, Mrs. Bean, directed the students in their classroom re-enactments.

Students in 4th grade have been learning about energy transfer. They are putting their knowledge to the test and making Rube Goldberg machines that would knock a marker off of their desk using only items in their desk!

Happy birthday Mrs. Howell! Mrs. Howell is a joy to have as one of our main secretaries. She is always happy and smiling and she makes the most delicious treats to share with us throughout the school year! She is easy to talk to and is a great listener and she goes on the funnest adventures that we get to vicariously live through! We hope you have the best birthday Mrs. Howell!
